MM: How did Hell-Born begin?
Hell-Born: In 1996 during recording of Behemoth’s "Grom", Baal and Les came to conclusion that they need to record the next stuff absolutely into old school of black and thrash metal. It wasn't possible in Behemoth and Damnation so they decided to release it in other project and only in two persons line-up. It that way HELL-BORN came to exist and in autumn 96 Pagan Records released their mini CD "Hell-Born" with four tracks and cover of Destruction - "Antichrist". Because involvement in three bands in the same time was too much, HELL-BORN spilt-up shortly after that. Resurrection of HELL-BORN had a place in 2000 when the need of return to roots and old feelings became too strong. Baal, Les and me wrote five new songs and in 2001 we released "Hellblast" album, which consists also four old tracks from "Hell-Born" 1996. After that Les suspended existence of his previous band DAMNATION and HELL-BORN became a true, professional band.

MM: You play very intense Black/Death Metal, where do you draw your main influences?
Hell-Born: We were growing up with all great bands of 80's and 90's like Venom, Slayer, Kreator, Destruction, Possessed, Necrovore, Morbid Angel, Deicide and their influences are very strong in our music. We are not "a modern" band, we take inspirations from golden times of true metal, from heavy metal, speed metal, black, thrash, death because its a classic!!!! Black Sabbath has been classic for 30 years and black and thrash metal scene from 80's is also classic for me. We are not going to create a new forms and dimension for metal music, we are going to keep the flame of classic and true metal scene forever!!!!!!!

MM: "The Call of Megiddo" was received with praise here at Metal Mayhem, How has "Hellblast" been received worldwide?
Hell-Born: Really great!!! I think that a lot of people were surprised that metal in old school form has not to be primitive and unprofessional. A few years ago it was a fashion for bands playing so-called retro-thrash, but most of them were just a bunch of heavy beer drinkers not interested too much in playing. HELL-BORN has never been the band it that way and that's way I hate that retro-thrash stream. We got reviews comparing our sound and music to old Sodom, Onslaught, Entombed and that was fantastic. It has meant for us that we have that "old feeling" in our music and there is a place for HELL-BORN 's style nowadays. Only disappointing was a short time of "Hellblast", but the reason was very simple - previously we thought about "Hellblast" as a next mini-CD and that's why we prepared only five new tracks.

MM: Any plans to tour the UK?
Hell-Born: Not before spring 2003. We have a new drummer Chris who replaced Basti and now we're working really hard on old and new stuff. Probably we will play some gigs there in Poland in January or February 2003 but our next visit in Europe and UK should be on spring or summer 2003.

MM: What can we expect from a live Hell-Born gig?
Hell-Born: Chains, leather and Hell Fuckin' Metal!!!!!

MM: If you could pick any two bands to tour with, who would it be and why?
Hell-Born: Venom, Slayer, And Morbid Angel. Sorry, it's three. Venom, because they are Godfathers of Black Metal and the most influential band on extreme metal scene of 80's. Their old records became classic they new records are still great, their music is just immortal. Slayer, because they are the best thrash metal band ever and "Reign In Blood" is a monument. King/Hannemenn are one of the best guitarists on the world. Morbid Angel - because they are creators of Death Metal, because "Altars of Madness", "Blessed Are The Sick" and "Covenant" delimited areas of heavy music, because Trey Azagthoth and his playing are not of this world.

MM: How would you compare "Call of Megiddo" to "Hellblast"?
Hell-Born: There are not too much difference between "Hellblast" and "The Call of Megiddo", I think. We'd like to keep the same feeling and write stuff in the same way like "Hellblast" and we did it. "The Call of Megiddo" is like continuation of "Hellblast", we are not going to change anything in our style because we feel it and we love it. Tracks on "Megiddo" are shorter, there are more fast parts but nothing more has changed.

MM: What are your thoughts on the Polish Metal scene?
Hell-Born: Our scene is really strong, more and more bands got contracts with big labels and play tours in Europe and USA. Vader, Behemoth, Hate, Dissenter, Lost Soul, Yattering, Devilyn, Decapitated, Immemorial, Mess Age,Trauma, Quo Vadis, Azarath, Witchmaster, the list is going on...

MM: What do you think of Webzines?
Hell-Born: It's ok. The time has changed and some people prefer to surf the net instead of reading the books, magazines etc. It's just a new form and I like it too.

MM: Any last comments?
Hell-Born: Thanks a lot for your support!!!! Death to False Metal!!!! The Second Beast Is Coming...........
