Back to Interview List

MM: It’s been a few months since we last spoke; can you fill us in on what you’ve been up to since then?
Baal: Hail Satan! Nothing special happened during those days, you know. We’ve been involved with looking for a new drummer, ‘coz Chris left the band due to some personal problems. Fortunately we found a replacement already.

MM: Your fourth album, “Legacy of the Nephilim” was released recently and got a 9/10 here. What has the feedback been like worldwide?
B: Well, the response is great. We are getting high scores and good reviews. What’s most important- our fans love the new songs. We’ve played some of them live already, and the answer was a killer!
MM: You’ve also toured extensively during the last year or so, which gigs/festivals have been the best for you?
B: It’s hard to tell, you know. I could easly say, that the best shows are the ones with the biggest crowds, like a fest we played in London, with more than 350 people, but it’s not true. I doesn’t matter to how many people come to watch HELL-BORN. 5, 50, 500, 5000, they all deserve the same- a real Hell Fuckin’ Metal onslaught! As long as the sound is good and we can feel comfortable playing, each fuckin’ show is great.

MM: Which country do you prefer to play?
B: I don’t know, dude. We’ve played great shows in shit places and shit shows in cool places. There are no rules concerning that. I love to see people screaming, headbanging, drinking galons of booze and going fuckin’ crazy. Polish crowds are the best in the bussiness when it comes to that.

MM: Can you give us details of any gigs/tours/festivals you’ve got planned during 2004?
B: The first big plan is to join the No Mercy Fest, but it’s nothing sure yet. We’ll do a couple of shows in Europe as usual. In July we are supposed to play at the Milwaukee Metal Fest.

MM: Coming back to “Legacy of the Nephilim” what is your opinion on it? DO you think that it’s your best offering yet and is there anything you would have like d to have done differently?
B: I never try to find things to change in an already recorded album. I know what to do with the next one- make it better than the previous one. That’s our motto. “Legacy…” is the best fuckin’ piece of evil in our career. I can only asure our fans it’s gonna be followed by another good albums.

MM: How would you compare it to say your last release “The Call of Megiddo”?
B: Well, “The Call…” was sort of a next step on our path. That’s all. I like that album, I love to play those songs. It got good reviews and the sales were quite impressive as well. That’s what we wanted to achieve with that album. “Legacy…” got a better sound production, we were able to spend more time working on the arrangements, and you can hear that. We’ve just managed to create and produce a fuckin’ great album.

MM: You are seen as one of the top bands in Poland at the moment, what other bands would you recommend that come from your home country?
B: It’s nice to see your own work being appreciated. We try to do our best, ha, ha! Some good Polish bands… Well, check out AZARATH, ANIMA DAMNATA, WICHMASTER, THRONEUM, SUPREME LORD. If you are able to survive this set, ask me for more.

MM: Something I forgot to ask in the last interview, are any of you involved in side projects or are thinking of starting one?
B: No, I don’t fuckin’ need it. Unless you want to call DAMNATION a side project, We’ve just decided to bring the band back and start working on a new album.
MM: What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t in Hell-Born?
B: I’d be banging my fuckin’ head, and playing fuckin’ metal in the name of Satan in another band.

MM: So, what have you got in store for 2004?
B: First of all the promotion of our new album. This is a priority. As you’ve probably noticed, we ain’t no bunch of lasy assholes, so you can expect some new HELL-BORN studio release this year…

MM: Any last words for our readers?
B: Keep fuckin’ supporting metal. Spikes and chains forever!
