MM: Can you just give us a brief idea what Nevermore are about?
Jeff Loomis: Basically, I’d say were just an aggressive metal band, because what we do is quite hard to categorize as we change our style from album to album.
MM: We’ve got your new album here "Enemies of Reality" which is out on the 28th July. How pleased were you with the final results?
JL: We’re very pleased with the album. It took us a lot longer than usual to record the album though, it took about 3 months, but other than that this is probably our best effort so far and we’re all very proud of it.
MM: Who are your main influences, individually and as a band?
JL: Well, I listen to a lot of Swedish metal bands like Arch Enemy, Soilwork and In Flames, and I also listen to bands like Opeth.
MM: We’ve been looking at reviews of your previous albums, "Dreaming Neon Black" came up a lot, may claiming that this is your masterpiece. How do you feel about it?
JL: I think that was a pretty big album at the time for us, it was basically a conceptual record but to hear that makes me very happy.
MM: Do you think that your future releases are always going to be compared to it?
JL: You can’t really think about it being better than your last album, I didn’t even think for one minute trying to better it. I always try to clear my head and not listen to any music when I’m composing because I think this really helps to be very original sounding. I very excited for this album to be released because I think people are really going t o enjoy it.
MM: What is your favorite Nevermore album?
JL: I think any time a new album comes out it always my favorite you know, just because its brand new, but to tell you the truth I think "Dead Heart in a Dead World" is my favorite.
MM: When was the last time you played In the UK?
JL: The last time we played England was….2001 I believe. We came here with Dimmu Borgir, Lacuna Coil and Suspiria. It was a five-band bill and it was excellent, we played the Astoria and it was totally unexpected welcome for us, we never thought we had so many fans over here. After the show the first thing I said was “I can’t wait to come back” so, I’m really looking forward to returning In September and October
MM: What do you think of the UK metal scene in general, are you familiar with it?
JL: I don’t really know. There’s Cradle of Filth and that but I’m not really familiar with it. We love playing there though!
MM: What bands are you listening to at the moment?
JL: I’m listening to a band called Meshuggah at the moment, there my favorite.
MM: What do you think is the bands greatest and worst moment?
JL: Our greatest moment was probably in 1995 when we played the Dynamo Festival in front of about 180,000 people, which is our biggest show we’ve ever played. As for our worst, erm…. We haven’t really got many sad stories but I think it was when our bus was involved in a crash, which was scary as we all feared for our lives, but other than that things are great.
MM: What’s your opinion on the Internet? How do you think it helps and/or hurts bands?
JL: I don’t really know. I think it can really hurt a band and effect their record sales if the whole album is on a MP3 site. I think something needs to be done, and something needs to be done quickly otherwise bands could be put out of business. I might download like one song before I go out and but the album, but I’d never download a whole album, I’m not a believer in that.
