MM: How was Pyorrhoea formed?
Pyorrhoea: We have formed in the middle of 2001, when Cyprian and Andy Blakk started to write some stuff. Few months after Daray, and after him, The Pope joined the band. In November 2002 new guitarist Adrian joined the band. Since then, bands line up is as following: The Pope - throat, Cyprian - bass, Daray - drums, Andy Blakk - guitars and b. vocal and Adrian - guitar.

MM: Where did the band name originate? Pyorrhoea: It is a name of periodontal disease. This is a disease of the teeth socket. Here is medical description: "The gums become tender, and on pressing, pus oozes out along the margin of the teeth. Pus from the cavities continually finds its way into the stomach. When the disease is far advanced, the gums become swollen, and the stomach being sosed with increasing quantities of pus, does not function properly. A sepsis may appear in various forms, digestion gets disturbed, liver trouble sets in, and the whole system is adversely affected." A friend of us is a doctor, and someday he had medical practices in hospital, in dental department. And he told us someday about patient he had. Woman with advanced periodontal disease. Her face has been swollen, gums covered with abscesses with pus coming from some of them. Well… one of us said “how she is doing blow jobs?”, haha… That is how the name was "invented". |

MM: How would you describe your style of music?
Pyorrhoea: We play intense death/grind. But this is just a label. You need to check it by your own in order to have an overview of our music. Visit our website at www.pyorrhoea.org and listen to sound samples. That would be the best description…
MM: How has been the reaction to your promo CD?
Pyorrhoea: We are receiving lots of mails from people, magazines and labels. All reactions are very positive, and this is something which motivate us to work harder and harder… All those who liked promo won’t be disappointed!
MM: Have you played any live gigs yet?
Pyorrhoea: Yes, we have played. And more will come - at now only local ones, but maybe someday we will visit UK and we’ll spread our disease there…
MM: What would be your ultimate gig line-up?
Pyorrhoea: If you are asking about band line-up, then we have our ultimate line-up now… but, if your question was about gig set-up, then there are lots of bands we’d like to play with. Just to mention Pungent Stench, Disgorge (both), Nasum… There are many names.
MM: What bands are you listening to at the moment?
Pyorrhoea: We could point out few bands - Carcass, Impetigo, Aghatocles, Nasum, Hate Plow, Rotten Sound, Vomitory, Blood, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Napalm Death, Venom… but this is just a few. We are listening to different kind of music, and pointing out some bands would take too much space here. Mainly brutal bands, as well as sick industrial acts like Wumpscut, FSOL, GGFH or Scorn.
MM: What plans do you have now?
Pyorrhoea: At now we are working on full album, which we want to record in the middle of next year. We still promote our promo, and we will do so, until our album will be released.
We are looking to find a good label, which would help us to spread Pyorrhoea all over the world… Nothing extraordinary.

MM: Have you had any interest from labels yet? Pyorrhoea: Yes, we are in touch with some labels, and we have one label, which would release our full album, we would like to record in mid of next year. But… it is too early to give any names now. Assuming, the promo we recorded did its job… Opinions we received from several labels were really great. Let’s see what future bring. |
MM: Who writes your lyrics, and what subjects do they deal with?
Pyorrhoea: Lyrics write Andy Blakk and The Pope. Murder, death, dark side of human nature... Those are common topics of our lyrics.
On promo, all lyrics, except Hung On A Hook (which is fictive) and Mynameiseva…, are based on real situations. We have searched the Internet and we have found some incredible stories. For example, Chainsaw Dance is about woman who offered sex to men. During preliminary game, she bondaged them and… instead of making sex, she attacked them with chainsaw. And she filmed that on video. Sounds unreliable, but this is true…
Most of new lyrics deal with sexual perversions, and similar to lyrics from promo, most of them are based on facts…
MM: Thanks for the interview. (You can hear more of Pyorrhoea on our Metal Mayhem Vol.I release soon) Any last comments for our readers?
