MM: Firstly, Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions.
Ed Fuhrman: Hey man, thanks for taking the time to interview us!
MM: Many people will know you from US thrashers “Hades”, is there any chance of a Hades reunion, or is “Ten Ton Truck” the way for you now?
EF: Hades is pretty much over at this point. Technically our contract with Metal Blade is for one more CD, but we’ll probably never record it. Ten Ton Truck is my new band now. Once I get this band a record deal, then we’re really going to move forward very quickly. I have big plans for this project.
MM: Can you tell us the main reasons for forming “TTT” and give us a little bit about the rest of the band?
EF: Back in 2001 when I was recording the last Hades album, I had a bunch of songs I had written that were very different from what Hades was doing. Still very heavy, but in a different way. So I knew I needed to start putting together a new band so I could get these songs out. I’m always coming up with catchy musical ideas, but I felt I could never truly express them with Hades. Ten Ton Truck now gives me the creative outlet that I needed. I spent the last 2+ years putting this band together. I carefully chose musicians who shared my vision for this project. Jim King and I really clicked right away. He’s a super solid drummer who hits harder than anyone I’ve ever heard. He was the first member I recruited back in 2001. Then I found Craig Salvadeo(bass). He a great all around musician and he plays a bunch of different instruments. He’s the only bass player I know that can memorize songs after only hearing them once. Amazing!!! And finally there’s our singer, Jim Frizzell. It took us a long time to find him, but man was it worth it. His voice is unbelievable.
MM: How would you describe the actual sound of “TTT” and how would you say it compares to Hades and do you think it will appeal to those fans?
EF: It’s hard to put us in one category because we have so many different types of songs. I think everyone hears things differently so I’d be hard pressed to say exactly what we sound like. I’ve just been telling people to go to our website and decide for themselves. I cannot compare TTT to Hades. To me they are totally different sounding. I’ve already heard from quite a few old Hades fans and most seem to really like the sound of Ten Ton Truck. That actually surprised me because I thought most of them would not approve of the direction I’m going it.
MM: Moving onto the demo, you’ve released a 4-track demo for records labels etc. Is this going to be made available to fans, press etc?
EF: Right now I’m shopping the demo around to record labels in hopes of landing a deal. So at least for the next few months the demo is not available to the general public. If we don’t get signed on this demo, I will probably release it at some point. But people can hear samples of these songs on our website.
MM: Who are the main writers of the band?
EF: I write and arrange all the music and Jim Frizzell writes all the lyrics and vocal melodies.
MM: What has the reaction/feedback been like towards the band so far?
EF: So far the reaction has been fantastic! I’ve received hundreds of positive emails from fans all over the globe. It seems the underground metal scene is still alive and well.
MM: Where would you say your main influences come from?
EF: I listen to many different forms of music. Classical, Blues, Funk, and of course Metal. Early on in my playing career I was inspired by bands like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and Metallica. However, when I’m writing songs, I try to avoid listening to anything related to the style I’m trying to write. So lately, I’ve purposely been avoiding all forms of heavy music. Otherwise I may end up inadvertently ripping someone off. I don’t want Ten Ton Truck to sound like any other band except Ten Ton Truck!! I know it sounds strange, but my main influence right now is myself.
MM: We’re half way through 2004 now, what do you hope to achieve before the end of the year.
EF: By the end of the year I hope that TTT will at least have a recording contract with a decent label. I’m anxious to get started on our first album.
MM: I’ve read that you have already written 40+ songs, and, if they’re anything like the samples we’ve heard, it looks very promising for the band. You seem very focused and confident on achieving success with “TTT”?
EF: Yes, it’s true. I have over 40 songs written at this point. The singer is still playing catch-up because he joined the band only 6 months ago. But we have enough material for our first few albums already. And yes, I believe very strongly in this project. I think it’s the best music I’ve ever recorded. And with a little hard work and a little luck, hopefully we will get a chance to prove that we’re a top notch metal band.
MM: Have you done any gigs/tours this year? Any Plans to?
EF: Believe it or not, the band has not played a show yet. Once we found a singer(in Dec, 2003), we spent all of our time concentrating on getting the demo completed. I wanted the demo to kick ass from beginning to end. Believe me, I’m not screwing around here. This demo will literally blow your doors off. I think you can hear that even from the samples on our website. Now that the demo is done, we’re going to start playing some shows. Everyone in the band has extensive stage experience from previous bands, so I’m confident we won’t have any problems in a live situation. We’re also working on a really cool stage set-up involving truck related stuff. I think it will make quite an impact once people see it.
MM: Any last words for our readers?
EF: Just want everyone to go to http://ten-ton-truck.com and check out the site and the samples from our demo. Feel free to email me with comments – (good or bad). I’d love to hear from you guys! Also, the other ex Hades guitarist Dan Lorenzo has recently released a solo CD. Check it out at http://www.DanLorenzo.net
MM: Thanks again for setting this up, we hope things go well for you guys!
EF: Thanks!!!
